Opportunities in UK Equities - Investing in Change

The prolonged period of monetary expansion we’ve seen in the wake of the financial crisis has had a significant impact on both the UK economy and the domestic equity market. As policy tightens and Brexit bites, Leigh will explain why a flexible and prudent stock picking approach is required to navigate the current market backdrop. He will outline why he is focusing on identifying companies that appear to be masters of their own fate and how he combines these stocks into a concentrated portfolio that has the potential to deliver returns across a range of conditions.

Stay Tuned- There's More to Come

There’s an overwhelming ‘end of cycle’ feel to equity markets these days. The strong dollar, the long unwind of central bank stimulus and concern about bond yields and credit markets are making some investors gloomy. It’s a tricky time. Even so, I’m prepared to back this cycle to continue for a good while longer. The UK economy is picking up, the pound’s move is easing some Brexit-related pressure and exporters are benefiting. In the Old Mutual UK Alpha Fund, we like financials and pharmaceuticals, and see excellent opportunities in a portfolio of UK companies to generate long-term capital growth.

Turning Point: Is Now the Time to Switch from Growth to Value

Ten years of falling interest rates and quantitative easing has been favourable for bond proxies and quality growth stocks. ‘Value’ as a style of investing has, therefore, been deeply out of favour, but as interest rates rise and QE becomes QT, could this all be about to change? RWC portfolio manager Nick Purves draws upon 30 years’ experience to discuss the mechanics of this rotation and what it means for those investors truly focussed on value.

Micro Caps: Navigating the Risks and Opportunities of Investing in Genuinely Smaller Companies

Micro caps sit at the smaller end of the small cap universe. On the face of it they may therefore seem too volatile and risky to warrant consideration, even within a balanced portfolio. Fund Manager, Ken Wotton, argues that a rigorous and high conviction approach, backed by the specialist resources of a private equity investor, can help navigate this area of the market in order to identify attractive and robust micro and small cap listed companies with high long term growth potential.
