Mark has over twenty years' experience in Financial Services and prior to becoming the Director General of the EIS Association, he was Head of Research and Development at Mazars, a leading UK financial planning firm. Mark is highly qualified being a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Financial Planner, Chartered Wealth Manager and Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and previously sat on the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments Accredited firms committee and TISA's Distribution Policy Council. Mark's involvement with EIS began eight years ago and he has since championed EIS investing within a financial planning context and is extremely passionate about promoting the industry, increasing its effectiveness and ensuring EIS continues its 20 - year success story in delivering £15 billion of investment to over to over 24,000 small businesses. @EISA_DG

Martin Fox

Managing Director

Bulletin Marketing

Martin has had a career in financial services marketing.
This has included a range of roles at Legal & General, Marketing Director at Prolific, and General Manager Marketing at Pearl Assurance.

He then became Managing Director of the strategic marketing arm of a London agency.

Today he is Managing Director of Bulletin Marketing, where he is heavily involved in the tax efficient market, including chairing the Research, Education and Marketing committee for the EIS Association.


Julia Groves

Partner, Head of Crowdfunding


Since co-founding in 1994, Julia has invested a combination of her time and money in a series of new businesses in the digital and environmental sectors, including most recently Trillion Fund, a loan based crowdfunding platform for renewable energy projects. She co-founded the UK Crowdfunding Association in 2012, and has been instrumental in reforming regulation for crowd investors, and in the creation of the new Innovative Finance ISA. Julia joined Downing in March 2016 to lead the crowdfunding business, offering asset-backed bonds to retail investors.

Stephen McDowell

Veteran financial journalist

Stephen McDowell has been in journalism for 30 years first as a crime, then foreign reporter before settling into finance with Financial Adviser in 1997. In his time he edited Money Marketing, was the first official editor of, was editor-in-chief of interactive investor (which included Moneywise and MoneyObserver), and was co-founder of iBall TV (the UK's first stock-picking TV channel). He has worked on many launches of financial publications and advised numerous companies on media strategy since setting up on his own in 2012.

Matthew Woodbridge

Head of Division, Alternatives

St. James's Place Wealth Management

Matthew works in the Investment Management Division at St James's Place Wealth Management and is responsible for the tax advantaged products platform and other alternative investments for the group. Matthew joined St James's Place from Barclays Wealth, where he was a Director within the Global Investment Solutions Division.

Ben Yearsley


Shore Financial Planning

Ben spent many years at Hargreaves Lansdown as an integral part of the investment research team, but also headed VCT research and investor relations. He joined Charles Stanley Direct in 2012 as Head of Investment Research and was responsible for fund research, communications and PR as well as developing the D2C platform. Since leaving he co-founded a tax efficient investment company for high net worth individuals as well as currently chairing the investment committee for a Plymouth based Shore financial planning with £130 AUM.

Ben also acts as a non-executive director for a fund of funds and sits on the advisory committee for a multi asset fund manager. Ben is a well-known investment commentator with a broad experience in all facets of the media from TV and radio to the printed word.
